Working as a Freelancer or Employee?
I'm from Curitiba and with some questions about work. In fact, one does not have much opportunity to 3D, but recently I got my first job at a small animation studio. However, I wanted to know more about the best ways to succeed in doing freelance services (freelances) and work as a standalone it! I have devoted myself entirely at the time in creating characters and want to build a nice portfolio and my characters. Many tell me that if you can freelance as a nominee and such, but wanted to know other ways. I already sent my portfolio to almost everywhere here in my area and one of Florianopolis, the latter was interested, but guess I was startled by the salary (lol) ... I actually proposed a fair value in accordance with the cost of life there and my shift and everything, then they told me they wanted to reschedule a conversation and did not give the more expensive ... well, another studio was more or less the same thing, the guy showed interest and asked for my phone and simply did not answer me more! What would you suggest? Thank you.
Hello, you're on track. Have to evaluate the cost and benefit that you will have. Always leave the option of the salary who will hire you. Sometimes it's hard, but who really knows how much has to pay you is who will hire you, so to speak an exact value is somewhat risky, unless you have extensive experience and is entering a major studio. Sometimes it is worth investing in early and be subject to a salary not longed for you to get experience, because then it may be easier for you.
What is nice is also talking about a value slightly higher than you receive. Often the studio now that is hiring you can not cover the bid to lose you. But much depends on each case is different. The important thing is to have professional attitude, be transparent, healthy and have a good portfolio in hand, which is what you're also trying to build at the moment.
If you want to set as standalone, you need a good website with excellent works to attract new customers and really think as a studio.
Well, finally, IQ or indication as you said, it really is very strong in any market segment, but not dominant factor is not to get work. Think about it, there will always be new companies or companies that are growing and they will want to invest in 3D art. If you pass credibility, professionalism and quality of work for sure you will achieve your space.
The portfolio is your main weapon, put it the real parts of the job you want to follow. If you want to get into a great producer, for example, see what work they have done and be inspired to work within the same line, even if only to recreate the chicken or the character of Sadia Casas Bahia. If your job is really outstanding in national and international forums for sure you will have many doors open to its 3D endeavor.
Of course it goes without saying, but it never hurts to repeat that it is essential to always act with great dedication, strength, and study.
Good luck,
Team Tonka3D
